New Delhi Shopping and New Delhi Shopping Districts
(New Delhi, Delhi, India, IN)
New Delhi is full of shopping opportunities and the city's many grand emporiums and large stores mean that it is easy to pick up quality Indian souvenirs. Also popular with shoppers in New Delhi are the city's many colourful markets and clothing bazaars, where you are able to haggle for a range of items.
Many shopping districts and enclaves within New Delhi specialise in designer goods, while other parts of the city are full of superb bookstores and shops selling everything from local handicrafts and textiles, to leatherwork and fragrant spices. Look out for the Chandni Chowk shopping district, located next to the Red Fort and full of character and brightly coloured textiles, and also the up-and-coming shopping district of Karol Bagh, which features its own metro station.

A number of the city's largest hotels are home to a series of glitzy shopping arcades, where you are able to purchase quality souvenirs, although these goods are often somewhat overpriced. For something considerably cheap, the many street hawkers around central New Delhi sell almost everything imaginable, including toys and jewellery.
Worth looking out for is the Central Cottage Emporium, which is situated close to Connaught Place and features eight floors. Operated by the government, this shopping centre is especially popular with tourists, since all of the sales assistance do speak English.
Several Western-style shopping malls are beginning to appear on the very outskirts of New Delhi, within the suburbs of Noida (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority) and also Gurgaon. For many, the ultimate shopping experience in New Delhi is provided by the bustling bazaars and markets. Within the very centre of the Old Delhi district, the Chandni Chowk is known for its winding alleyways and small, local shops, while just a short walk from Connaught Place, Janpath is an enormous flea market and brimming with knick-knacks and bargains. Also in this part of New Delhi, the air-conditioned underground Palika Bazaar can be found beneath Connaught Place, although do be prepared for a spot of serious haggling.
